| Spring is here |

| [ | Current mood is |
| | contemplative | ] | Ooo, the weather has been lovely all week, although I still have yet to go out in it ;) but its still nice to be free :)
I'm currently volunteering on a project for a good cause, working on a web startup for someone, and hoping to get some time for my own projects now. Hmm, I think I'm going to need to start getting organised for this to all work!
What else? Ah yes, I have been spring cleaning away ready these past couple of days as I have a few pieces of furniture arriving Tuesday afternoon, so I'll finally have furniture again! :D Rebuilding a life takes a looong time ay ;) |

| Moving on again |
[Mar. 6th, 2009|10:43 pm] |
| [ | Current mood is |
| | artistic | ] | Well time has past and its now 2009 and I handed in my one month's notice last week after my job (as a PHP Web Developer) became excessively content & VBScript based.
Its funny to think how much time has gone by, and how little I have achieved, both professionally (excluding work for my employers), personally and socially. Despite work pretty much 24/7 continually, I have been managing to put time into a side project that I am fully backing though, so hopefully that will kick in soon, and keep me occupied whilst I finally have free time ;)
All this will also give me the much needed opportunity to work on any web development for animal charities and Creatures bits I've been wanting to get back to for ages now.
April will be the time to really focus! |

| After the tone |
[Sep. 8th, 2007|12:13 am] |
| [ | Current mood is |
| | crushed | ] | This has been a tough week, but today my ex made it worse.
Would you believe he actually phoned me to ask if I could speak to the 40 year old woman he cheated on me with to reassure her that I am not still seeing him. The call came with a selection of additional, horrifying confessions that have certainly convinced me that believing he was a dog was being extremely kind to him, as he certainly isn't even at flee status. I am shocked and, to try to put me through something like that after everything else I've had to put up with, I now see him in a new sick light.
Eeh, I know there is a lot of stuff I should be doing but I think I just have to focus on continuing to breath tonight, as that's a struggle enough at the moment. |

| Decent Seven Inch Laptop? |
[Jun. 17th, 2007|09:24 pm] |
| [ | Current mood is |
| | contemplative | ] | I've been looking at the smaller 7-10" display laptops again today to see if there might be a light, portable model for work.
Ideally I'm hoping to find a model with a decent processor that can be upgraded to 1-2Gb RAM, with a good sized starting hard drive (60Gb min) and a solid battery life (over 6 hours or so), and which would support running a flatscreen monitor in 1024x768 (17") and 1280x1024 (19") in 32bit colour. It has to be able to run as a LAMP testing machine, with a VPN client and handle whatever I'm working on all at the same time, so its got to be fairly good.
There are a few smaller Fujitsus, Sony Vaios and of course the Flybook to consider; I am currently looking at the Fujitsu Siemens P1610 and the Flybook V5 and V33i atm, and possibly the Panasonic R6.
Are there any other good pocket sized laptops or tablets I may have missed? |

| New job means spending money, right? |
[May. 26th, 2007|04:56 pm] |
| [ | Current mood is |
| | contemplative | ] | My new employers don't seem to be very ergo-friendly so I've been purchasing a few bits ready for next week to duplicate my home setup.
So far I have ordered a Logitech Cordless Desktop Comfort Laser keyboard, a Kensington Black Foam Wrist Rest and a USB2.0 Hi-Speed 4 Port Hub (as I believe we use laptops as standard and am not yet sure how many USB ports it will have). Instead of the expected £35 it only cost £25 with the Google Checkout discount. Then, at some point this weekend, I want to nip into town and grab a Fellowes Gel Mousepad.
I will leave ordering a Wacom Graphire4 Classic A6 Tablet until next weekend, when I'm certain everything is going well, and I might need to add a laptop riser/stand and lock then also. Now you may know why I seem to come out of jobs with less money than I started ;) |

| New Job as a PHP Developer |

I have a new job!
My job interview for the second position went well today and I have been offered jobs at both companies. I opted for today's company, as it seemed a more sociable environment and it was located slightly closer & in the middle of a town center; So I will be starting there next Thursday!
With this new job I should be learning a lot more about ecommerce systems, and server redundancy setups, that should prove very useful for the future, and did I mention they were also a games publisher? ;) |

| Web Interviews |
[May. 23rd, 2007|12:55 pm] |
I was offered a job as a PHP web developer/C++ programmer this morning (located 45 mins away), for which I need to let them know my decision by Friday afternoon, and I have another interview for a PHP position on Friday morning (25 mins away).
Can't someone just fund me for my own project? Hmm :( |

| UK Smoking Ban - July 2007 |
[May. 12th, 2007|09:34 pm] |
| [ | Current mood is |
| | blank | ] | Smoking in enclosed public places will be banned in England from 1 July 2007.
The ban covers virtually all enclosed public places including offices, factories, pubs and bars, but not outdoors or in private homes.
So there is only a couple of months to go. As a non-smoker it will be nice to be able to go out for the evening and not come home smelling of smoke, but I can imagine it will be difficult for smokers. I wonder what kind of a difference this will make. |

| Possible Web Job |

So, I've applied for a position as a website engineer for a new games site, that I should hear back about within the next week or two.
I'm really hoping I get the job as I'm keen to learn more about developing website layouts and such. The only problem is the company's initial feedback was that I might be too 'software'; putting aside the desire to exclaim "I didn't know websites were hardware!" I tried to explain that programming is all the same really, no-matter what language its in, and that I could do the work without any problems. I guess I'll just have to wait and see now. |

| Another Power Cut |
[May. 8th, 2007|02:42 pm] |
| [ | Current mood is |
| | bored | ] | We had another power cut last night, at about the same time as the last one a couple of months ago. Its certainly relaxing to eat by candle light, but its not a good thing when you were about to email in a job application 'just' as your computer powered down. Luckily everything came back online within a few hours though.
The job I'm applying for is in web development again as, although I can do the programming side of things quite easily, I would rather like the chance to learn a bit more about the design element of the field. Anyways, we'll see what happens. |

I have been looking at a job in California recently and finally put my CV forward for it at 2am last night, once I had finished the all important covering letter. The company itself looks excellent, the product they are working on is ideal, and I can imagine the weather there would be quite different to the UK :)
Next I thought I would check exactly where the company was on Google Maps and sure enough it looks fairly close to the beach as well, very nice! Then, as you do, I clicked on the 'Get directions' button and couldn't help but laugh when I saw instruction 11:
11. Swim across the Atlantic Ocean 3,462 miles (29 days 0 hours) |

| More Snow |
[Mar. 19th, 2007|09:46 pm] |
| [ | Current mood is |
| | cheerful | ] | The weather forecast predicted it would snow on Sunday and, just as all the news began covering the topic of where the snow had gone, it snowed! We had a brief flurry of snow at lunch time and then by around 5pm the weather became quite unusual - We had snow, hail, thunder and lightning all at once! It was quite something to see. Everything is now completely white outside, it will be gone tomorrow but for tonight its quite lovely. |

| Pasta by Candle light |
[Mar. 10th, 2007|12:04 am] |
| [ | Current mood is |
| | contemplative | ] | We had a power cut last night, the first in many years, and it was kinda nice. I lit all my different candles, placing them all around the house and ate quite a relaxed evening meal in the warm, flickering light. It was really quite different and, when the power returned, I found myself thinking that it would be good to do that again sometime ;)
The downside is that I still have quite a few clocks to reset tonight and I'll probably continue to find the odd stray unset clock every so often for the next few days. |
